Community

Literally “the called-out ones.” Not a building, not an institution — an assembly summoned together. The Body, gathered.

Community isn’t a program — it’s the soil everything else grows in.

Each of us needs various levels of human encounter. Common Ground is built around three:

Intimate friends

Small groups of close friends and associates with whom life is actually lived together.

A shared larger body

Periodic involvement with a larger group that shares our basic life values and meaning.

The surrounding culture

Meaningful interactions with the world and culture around us.

When Common Ground Seattle is fully active (not hibernating), we alternate weekly between smaller, organic group meetings and larger presentations or Eucharist gatherings.

Active Groups

Where life is lived and discussed together.

Active Private Groups

Committed groups, meeting regularly

Committed groups that meet to live and discuss life together. Two common forms:

Book studies — book (or Bible) studies and discussion groups.

Shared life — ongoing groups walking through ordinary life in each other’s company.

Purpose Groups

General community — a specific issue

Single-session or multi-session gatherings around a specific issue — open to the general community.

Research interactions — generally leadership discussions.
